Over 90% of food pantries and soup kitchens are run by small faith-based charities (Mom and Pop Faith-Based Charities). These
small pantries and soup kitchens are generally located in poverty areas. A very small percentage of the food
banks in The United States are faith-based and have been struggling for years to financially survive. Florida
Association of Hunger Relief Ministries (F.A.H.R.M.) was created to assist these smaller charities in having their concerns
heard and to help them with new resources. Where does a small volunteer charity with three or four volunteers go for help
with funds, food and other types of resources? Most of these Mom and Pop charities work out of a small religious facility
with twenty or thirty members that can not financially support their Pastor. F.A.H.R.M. will be an advocate for these Mom
and Pop charities and assist them with finances, food and in-kind donations.
It is important that we work together for the common good of people caught in poverty. Remember what the
word CHARITY means, it means to help the under served. If all the charities joined together,
we could help 10 times the people with 1/2 the funds. Charities should not be all about trying to close down simular
charities. They should be all about working together to help more people.
